Jorge Blanco is a Venezuelan artist born in Caracas, he now lives and works in Sarasota, Florida. During the last 30 years Blanco has developed a distinguished career as a sculptor, graphic designer, humorist and illustrator. He has received international recognition for his work in these different fields.
In 1971 he received an academic degree in Industrial Design, from the Neumann Institute in Caracas. Jorge moved to Rome, Italy in 1974 where he studied at the academy of Fine Arts. His first sculpture exhibition in Europe was a one-man show at the Italian-American Institute in Rome in 1978. In 1979, his sculptures and drawings were exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum in Caracas. Since then he has participated in over 100 group and solo exhibitions in Venezuela, Europe, Japan and the US.

Jorge is a recognized illustrator; his children's book illustrations (he has over 20 books in print) have won awards in his native country. His character "El Náufrago" (The Castaway) first appeared in 1980, since then it has been published in Venezuela's major newspapers and in seven books. It has appeared in publications in the United States, Portugal and Italy.

In 1979 Jorge Blanco developed the corporate image of the Children's Museum (Museo de los Niños), a science, art and technology center, pioneer in Latin-America. He continues to collaborate with this wonderful institution.

In the past 5 years his sculptures have been exhibited at Pier Walk in Chicago, Illinois, at the Mitchell Foundation, Mt. Vernon, Illinois. In Sarasota, his large scale sculptures "The Runners" are a permanent installation in the median on U.S. 41 across from the Art Center, "Phoenix", a 15 feet tall sculpture has been purchased by Sarasota County and "Cartwheel," permanent installation at Gulf Gate Elementary School. His sculptures and drawings are in private collections in South America, Asia, Europe and the US
